About Amharic Grammar Checking
Editors reviewing Amharic copy, students submitting formal assignments, and journalists working under deadline share a common frustration: small but embarrassing errors that a quick second pass would catch. A duplicated word from a copy-paste, a sentence that runs on for three lines without punctuation, a Latin character that crept in when switching keyboard layouts. This tool is designed to catch exactly those kinds of mechanical errors before they reach a reader.
The checker is rule-based, not AI-based, which means it does not attempt to understand Amharic grammar in its full complexity. What it does reliably is look for four specific patterns. It flags repeated consecutive words, which are almost always copy-paste accidents. It alerts when a sentence appears to be missing the Ethiopic full stop at the end. It marks sentences that exceed 50 words without any Ethiopic punctuation, a common sign of a run-on that needs breaking up. And it highlights any word containing a mix of Amharic and Latin characters, which usually means a keyboard-switching error crept in.
Paste your text into the input area and the analysis runs automatically. Each flagged issue shows a severity badge, a plain-language explanation of the problem, and its location in the text. You can then return to your original document and fix the specific spots identified. The tool works entirely in the browser, so none of your text is sent anywhere.
This is a structural checker, not a style or grammar guide. It cannot tell you whether a verb is in the wrong tense, whether a sentence is formally appropriate, or whether your word choice suits the register of the document. For academic papers, official publications, or anything that will be published under your name, a native-speaking editor is still essential. Use this tool to remove the mechanical noise before that human review.
