About the Ethiopian Fuel Price Tracker

Truck operators, minibus owners, and anyone managing a vehicle fleet in Ethiopia will tell you that fuel is often their single largest monthly expense. Because prices are set by government decree rather than the market, they can change suddenly and by a meaningful amount. Knowing the current price before you fill up, or before you submit a transport quote to a client, is simply practical.

Unlike most countries where fuel prices float daily with crude oil markets, Ethiopia regulates prices centrally through the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration. The government announces price adjustments periodically, and they apply to three main grades: regular petrol (octane 87), super petrol (octane 91), and diesel. Prices are set per litre in Ethiopian Birr and differ between Addis Ababa and the regions because transport costs to more distant parts of the country are factored in.

This tracker shows the current government-regulated prices for each fuel grade. If you want to estimate how much a specific trip or a month of driving will cost, enter your vehicle's fuel consumption rate and distance and the tool will work out your fuel budget automatically. Prices are updated here each time the government announces a change.
